The Foodist: Blueberry, Nutmeg, Cinnamon Fruit Sachets

A Blueberry, Nutmeg, Cinnamon Fruit Sachet on top of boring oatmeal becomes magic.

In this recipe we decided to reframe the classic blueberry galette recipe to something far more versatile. Rick made a filling for an extra galette that wasn’t used. Rather than feed it to the chickens, I decided to package it into The Foodist: Blueberry, Nutmeg, Cinnamon Fruit Sachets. Delight!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pints fresh washed and dried blueberries

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (ground from bark is best)

  • 1 tsp nutmeg (ground from a seed is best)

  • 1 lemon, juiced

  • 3 Tbsp flour

  • 1 Tbsp sugar reserved

  • Wax paper

  • Aluminum foil

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine all the ingredients into a bowl.

  2. Mix well. Allow the ingredients to rest.

  3. Spoon 1-2 Tbsp of the compote into wax paper atop aluminum foil, making sure you have enough at the edges to wrap the ingredients.

  4. Create the sachets. Twist the foil to seal the sachet.

  5. Place into the freezer to use when you need a burst of flavor.

  6. Try this atop oatmeal or even cornflakes.
